Moscato d'Asti
Moscato d' Asti is a sweet wine DOCG and it takes its name from the homonymous grape Moscato Bianco, used to produce this wine. Moscato Bianco is a very ancient grape variety, coming from the eastern territories in the Mediterranean, where it was widely diffused among the Greeks and the Romans ; the Muscatellum fact , accompanied the copious libations of Latin . The spread of these grapes is due to the particular sweet taste that is obtained, when the grapes wilt. Starting from the 14th century\ the aromatic sweet wine became very sought after and thanks to businesses in the eastern Mediterranean , Venice had spread this wine in the Italian peninsula with the name of " greek wine. " Today the white muscat has found its ideal growing area in a small hilly area in the south of Piedmont , composed by 52 territories belonging to the provinces of Asti , Alessandria and Cuneo . It is not legally required a minimum aging period , but Muscat is a wine to be drunk young , possibly within a year or at most a year and a half.
