EU: Piedmontan meat is finally IGP
The "vitellone piemontese della coscia" obtained the IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) by the EU: the confirmation arrived last 23rd of December. In this way is finally protected not only a unique food tradition as the true "battuta al coltello" but also a unique heritage of Made in Italy from a biodiversity, environment and economy point of view with the Piedmontan bovine race that consist in more 350 thousands head of cattles and 6 thousands enterprises involved in breeding, both traditional and linked to the montains pasture grazing.
Its breeding that has a hundred-years old presence in the province of Cuneo (since 1886) has today an annual turnover of more than 500 millions Euros and that with the whole production chain reaches 1 billion 30 millions Euros.
