Instagram
Instagram (IG) is a free photo and video sharing app, founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. On this app, people can upload photos or videos and share them with the so-called “followers”, that are a selected group of friends allowing to see the user’s profile. Moreover, Instagram users can also view, comment and like posts shared by their friends on it. In 2012, Instagram was acquired by Facebook, at the moment accounting more than 800 million of users all around the world! Nowadays, foodbloggers are getting more and more popular on Instagram, sharing the food universe under many profiles: from the so-called “foodporn” (mainly represented with giant pizzas, cakes, fried food and hamburgers) to healthy and vegan food. Moreover, thanks to the introduction of Instagram stories (a slideshow of photos and videos online only for 24 hours), many foodbloggers have the chance to increase the engagement and interest towards their followers, showing in a very short time how they cook a recipe, where to buy a typical dish and other tips. Presentation and composition is a key success on how to show food on Instagram: colorful and bright colour, use of natural light and very close-up shots are only a few tips used by many foodbloggers to make their food “Instagrammable”! According to some recent surveys, Pizza is now the most popular Instagrammed food, behind sushi and steak.
