Terroir
The five different Frescobaldi estates are situated in the most highly praised areas of Tuscany. Castello di Nipozzano, one of the Frescobaldis’ historic wine estates, is ideal for producing noble red wines; Castello di Pomino, located in Tuscany’s hills, is home largely to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; Tenuta di Castiglioni is Frescobaldis’ oldest estate, dating back to the 11th century; CastelGiocondo estate, located in Montalcino, is ideal for the production of superbly-structured wines with complex aromatics; Tenuta dell’Ammiraglia, located in the heart of Tuscany's Maremma, with a recently built winery, is designed to integrate perfectly into the surrounding countryside, with a deep respect for the local environment.
History
The history of the Frescobaldi family begins around the year 1000, and in a short time they became the absolute protagonists of political and economic life of Italy, earning also the right to the title ‘treasurers to the English Crown’. Even today their relationship with the British Royal Family is very strong, being also the only Italians to attend the Royal wedding of Willian and Kate in 2011. The family inscribed their name in the history of Florence commissioning grand public and architectural works such as the Santa Trinità bridge on the river Arno, and played an important role in allowing Dante Alighieri, the poet of the dolce stil-novo, to complete his Divina Commedia, by saving the first part of Inferno for the exiled poet. Frescobaldi’s start in wine production is documented at the beginning of the year 1300 at the historic estate of Tenuta di Castiglioni. A century later the Frescobaldi wines were served at the tables of the Papal Court and the English Court of Henry the Eighth.
